Turmeric

turmeric

The spice responsible for curry powder's golden color, turmeric is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment for digestive disorders and arthritis. Several antioxidant-rich compounds, collectively known as curcuminoids, provide the ochre-colored root's health benefits. Although curcumin accounts for only 3 percent of turmeric's makeup, it boasts extraordinarily potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Stronge evidence supports turmeric's effectiveness against dyspepsia (stomach upset) and ulcerative colitis, but it also appears to help age-related cognitive impairment, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Choose It & Use It Turmeric's earthy taste tempers the stronger spices in curry powder; it also enhances pastas and grains, soups, stews, and leafy green sautés. Sprinkle turmeric over open-faced cheese sandwiches before broiling, add a pinch to an egg-white omelet or tofu scramble, and increase the curcumin quotient in each teaspoon of curry powder by adding an extra 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric. This golden, earthy-flavored Indian spice delivers strong anti-inflammatory effects along with enhanced digestive health.

Thank you for this. I have just recently had turmeric suggested as a homeopathic supplement for my RSD treatment.

In response to Sherry Reed's question: i started eating a combination of fresh tumeric root (around the size of my pinkie finger) and fresh ginger as a medicinal tonic about 4x a week for a period of time. Roughly a month or so later, a subtle lessening of my knee pain and inflammation. Be aware of tumeric's ability to stain clothes, your toothbrush, etc, but it's so good for one's body. Indian herbalists recommends always adding black pepper to tumeric to bring out its healing properties.

I am learning about Turmeric, Thank you all for your time and effort to post.

Turmeric is amazing for inflammation. I had shoulder, knee and thumb joint pain. After drinking 8 oz. of carrot juice with 1 tsp. of ground turmeric 2X per DAY, my pain was completely resolved in 3-4 weeks. I started feeling results in about 3 days. My diet also eliminated inflammatory foods such as sugar, grains, white potatoes and other foods that were listed as inflammatory in "The Anti-Inflammatory Diet Plan" by Monica Reinagel. My husband had sciatica and turmeric and the anti-inflammatory diet has helped him tremendously, too. No more back pain and he can even play golf again!

Turmeric is not only an essential ingredient in Indian cooking, but is also associated with the well being of the family. As a tradition in Indian homes, married women are offered tokens of turmeric, during festive occasions.
