Native Foods: Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger

I love Heather's in Bay City, MI. So many vegan choices! They have different and unique specials every day. The vegan BLT is amazing, and following it up by maple frosted banana cake (also vegan) is pure nirvana. Absolute indulgence and well worth the trip.

Lovin Spoonfuls Tucson AZ Must try dish = "chickin" with mashed potatoes and gravy. ! Followed by any of their began caakes. They have gluten free as well.

Tofu Hut, Lacey, WA is my favorite vegetarian restaurant. They offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and yes, also meat options for those that just can't live without it. It is an asian fusion restaurant. Food is prepared in a healthy way. Must try? Too many to be named individually. My personal favorite is the tofu+fried rice+vegetables.

Green Restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona is more of a drop-in-for-lunch restaurant in a casual, college-town setting, but the all-vegan menu is wonderful. The only problem: their "Spicy Asian (Mock) Chicken Salad" is so good, I rarely can bring myself to divert to other items on their wonderful, all-vegan menu.

Quenna's Raw & Vegan Norfolk, Va. Avocado and Seaweed Combo Seasoned Avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, beets, mushrooms, spinach and onions in a Pocket Book. Marinated kush, crushed dried hot peppers, onions, garlic, parsley, wrapped in Nori seaweed.

Watercourse in Denver, CO. They are always busy when we go but it's worth the wait. You can't go wrong with ordering anything on the menu. However, their must-try dish is the Country Fried Seitan. It consists of a breaded seitan steak served with mashed potatoes, country gravy and a green bean and mushroom casserole. Their country gravy is to die for and put everything together makes this southern bred girl happy.

Native Foods Cafe. Buffalo wings

The Stand in Laguna Beach. Favorite: their tamales.

Vihn Lo Tofu in Reseda, CA. My favorite is their Bahn Mi but everything on the menu is amazing.

The Green Elephant in Portland Maine. Their Peanut Curry is to die for!

Native Foods, Culver City You gotta try the Oklahoma Bacon Cheese Burger or the Rockin' Moroccan Bowl.

While on a road trip with a high school best friend we traveled from Chapel Hill, NC to Nashville, TN we made a pact to try and find veggie restaurants at each one of our stops. We stopped in Asheville, Knoxville, Nashville and then on our way back we were staying near Cherokee, NC deep in the mountains. Finding such food was a heftier task. On a whim we stopped in a small town called Sylva, NC. We ate at a restaurant - Guadalupe Cafe - and I honestly ate the most delicious vegetarian food I had ever eaten. Although the restaurant isn't solely vegetarian there are multiple vegetarian options. I had the Blackened Plantain - a ripe plantain split lengthwise and grilled, then stuffed with scotch bonnet salsa, organic tofu & veggies; served over beans & fresh local greens with organic gorgonzola. It was a wonderful surprise! Who would have thought - deep in the mountains in NC.

Watercourse in Denver, CO

Without question, The Laughing Seed in Asheville, NC, is the best vegetarian restaurant I've found. It's so good, in fact, that I routinely detour a hundred or so miles out of my way when traveling to the NC mountains just so I can eat there. A relaxing sidewalk cafe atmosphere combines with extraordinary food to make this a "must do" for any vegetarian visiting that part of the country. Best dish? I love the Low Country Rollups, a veggie version of Carolina barbecue that would make any carnivore drool.

I love Noodle and Co.! Since I am allergic to Wheat, I always have their Pad Thai (rice noodles), and add broccoli and spinach.

The best vegaterian restaurant in Portland, Oregon is Natural Selection. They are absoulutly delicious! When you arrive you are greeted cheerfully and led to a beautifully set table. Then you have your choice of a six course dinner. They present you with delightful small plates of tasty food. Lovely fava bean saads, black trumpet mushroom gnocci, and sinfully chocolate and fruit desserts.Natural Selection uses the freshest local in season produce to make all their food. This is the most elegant vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to. Perfect for a special occasion, Natural Selection never disappoints!

Vedge in Philadelphia is hands down the best vegan restaurant I've ever been to. Every dish is insanely delicious, and the dirt list (their daily specials list) always includes exciting new vegetable plates. Veggies are front and center here, and you can't help but feel like you're witnessing a magic show.

Kavarna on Broadway in Green Bay, WI! Pretty much everything they make is AMAZING. Some favorites of mine would be there spinach artichoke toasted wrap, gyspy soup, yam fries. They also have excellent vegan treats.

Laughing Seed Cafe in Asheville, NC is so good that I am considering driving down from Maine just to eat there. Must eat options include omega hempnut burger, famous artichoke dip, and the Indian thali plate that changes daily.

Vida de Cafe in tiny Pass-A-Grille Beach, FL. Their menu is completely raw vegan, and the sushi with ginger pate is splendid! Their barley chili is excellent, too.

The Amsterdam Hash at the Watercourse in Denver - their gravy is amazing! It's so good, it's the only thing I ever order, even though everything there is great. I keep trying to get them to tell me what they put in the gravy to make it so good, but it is a closely held secret, as well it should be!

Elf in Echo Park, Los Angeles is a Morrocan Vegetarian restaurant that is AMAZING! it's where I take skeptical carnivores and they love it!. Everything is great, but you must try the tangine!

Lovin' Spoonfuls in Tucson, AZ Southwest Scramble

ananda fuara in san francisco. The neatloaf is a real treat.

native foods in chicago Il - delicious!!!!

Ethos Vegan Kitchen 1235 N Orange Ave, Ste 101, Orlando, FL 32804 Pecan Encrusted Eggplant

Veggie Heaven in Denville, NJ. This restaurant does awesome Chinese food. My favorite meal is an appetizer of sweet potato sushi and the General Tso chicken with a drink composed of freshly juiced fruits and veggies.

Sweet Melissa Vegetarian Cafe "Comfort Food for the Homesick Vegetarian" 213 South First Street, Laramie, Wyoming 307-742-9607 Everything is a masterpiece but be sure to try their sweet potato and black bean burrito smothered in green chili. Melissa has succeeded in convincing a lot of beef-eating ranchers to try her fresh, home cooked fare.

You must visit the New Green Vegetarian in Phoenix, AZ......everything on the menu is fantastic!! Whenever we make a trip to the valley we make it a point to stop there.

Everlasting Life Cafe 2928 Georgia Avenue Washington, DC 20001 (202) 232-1700 Everlasting life (EL) has got to be the most delicious vegan food that I've ever eaten and by now a DC staple. Their must have dish is the Mac-n-Cheese. When you first walk into immediately feel welcomed by the earthy decor and warm people that greet you as if you're a regular whether it's your first or fifty-ish visit! Before getting to the hot and cold entree's, you'll have to pass the "take a seat and sit a while" raw juice and smoothie bar, where they prepare in front of your eyes a delectable cold refreshing cup of juice that promises to please your taste buds and body! Everlasting Life is a DC treat not to be missed A Happy Customer for Life Val

Herbivore Restaurant (2 in San Francisco, and 1 in Berkeley) is fabulous and affordable for everyone. My favorite comfort food there is the Lentil Loaf served with mashed potatoes and the BEST mushroom gravy, with a side of sauteed greens - soooooo good on a foggy SF summer day!

Garden Cafe on the Green, Woodstock NY Quinoa, White Bean, and Mushroom Sautee with Chive Scallion Drizzle: pan seared tofu with caramelized onions and smoked cashew sauce, asparagus with lime crema, sauteed greens. ANYTHING they make at Garden Cafe is die for!!!

Boon Burger in Winnipeg! It's an all vegan cafe that make all their food from local and organically sourced ingredients. They have everything from healthy fries, house made vegan soft serve and of course their awesome burgers! My favourite is probably the Buddha Burger!

Yuan Fu in Rockville, Maryland

Sipz, in the North Clairemont area of San Diego is fantastic! Their lo mein with tofu and stir fry veggies is the best! I also love their mango-soy boba drink.

I'm an almost life long vegetarian from Denver, and as any Denver veggie will tell you, you must eat at Watercourse Foods. Their whole menu is veggie safe with tons of vegan and gluten free options. I can't go there without getting an appetizer of seitan hot wings to start. Then I always follow that with the country fried seitan steak, mixed veggies, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Rinse it down with their brewed hibiscus iced tea, and you're set. Never usually room for dessert, so I hit the bakery for some to go yummies!

Spiral Diner Magnolia Ave Fort Worth Tx Favorite: Nachos Supremo

Favorite Veg Restaurant: International Chain: The Loving Hut! I'm from Cincinnati, OH & find this restaurant loctated in Pleasant Ridge, Cincinnati, OH the best! Great food, lovely, welcoing decor & staff. Really a nice restaurant with a vast variety of vegan food. For those who are new to vegan cousine & may want something familiar, they offer meatless meat menu items, to those more advanced & dedicated to the vegan lifestyle, they offer raw, organic food dishes! You can find these restaurants all over the country & even in other countries & can always rest assured that you will find good quality organic, vegan food options for all to enjoy! Absolutely yummy & economical! You've got to try it!

Green New American Vegetarian, Phoenix AZ. They have a special called "Big Wac"---Big Mac imitation.

Melt Bar & Grilled (Lakewood, OH; Cleveland Hts., OH; & Independence, OH) - A gourmet grilled cheese restaurant. Each month they have a different grilled cheese sandwich that can be ordered vegetarian or vegan. They have standard sandwiches like the "Parmageddon" that has 2 potato & cheese perogies, fresh napa vodka kraut, grilled onions and cheddar cheese. It's genious and absolutely delicious. Bring a friend, the portions are HUGE and the wait is long!

Watercourse Foods in Denver is one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants I have ever eaten at they make their own tofu and everything is from scratch. I can't pick a favorite because everytime I eat there I try something new and it becomes my new favorite.

In Tucson, its the Lovin' Spoonfuls - hands down. It would be nice to see what the responses are across the country. Traveling can be difficult, particularly in certain regions - Are there vegetarians in Texas, and if so, where do they eat? I dread having to go there for work and would love some local advice - particularly on vegan. On the other hand in California veg restaurants are on every corner, so its not really a problem.

Real Food Daily (vegan) in Los Angeles just opened up a branch in Pasadena, and I'd say try the tofu scramble for breakfast! The restaurant inside Full O'Life health food store in Burbank CA is not exclusively vegetarian, but I've never had a vegetarian dish in there that I didn't like.

Grins @ the Jewish Community Center @ Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN) everything- but the veggie wrap with curry mayo and the vegan peanut butter molassess cookie

FreesoulCaffe, Tustin, California. The entire vegan menu is indescribably delicious! From the Green Tea Belgian Waffle to the Southern Vegetable Chilly, all the entrees, coffees, teas, and DESSERTS are satisfying, fresh, and of the highest standard & quality. My personal favorite - must try dish - is the Pumpkin Pecan Cake with Sour Cream Ganache. I've been known to scoot in Freesoul's door right before closing time to satisfy my craving. It's the "chicken soup" for my veggie soul!

Pomegranate Cafe, Phoenix Arizona Breakfast: Avocado Sandwich with Kamut roll, macadamia nut pesto, tomato, avocado, tofu, vegan cheese die for Lunch; Raw Rainbow Wrap: Collard leaves, almond cheese, avocado, red and yellow peppers, tomato, carrots, sunflower sprouts and cashew lemon dressing. We were visiting Arizona from Michigan. We ate at every vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, and Pomegranate Cafe won hands down. We went there three times while we were in town. We wish we could take them back to Michigan with us. Everything on the menu is to die for....we attempted to eat one of everything, but would have had to stay another month to accomplish our goal. We wish we had found them sooner. Congrats to the mother/daughter team who created this restaurant. You need to come to Michigan!

Sunflower Vegetarian in Falls Church, VA - Cold Basil Rolls

Angelica Kitchen in NYC--it's my dream to take cooking classes with former chef Myra Kornfeld! In addition to their regular menu, they create a seasonal menu that changes daily, so anything from that is one of my go-to meals.
