Farmhouse Rolls
Makes 16, serves 8
The wonderful Parker House–style rolls that grandmoms once baked can now be made more easily with rapid-rise yeast. They don’t just look homemade, they are homemade.
- ¾ cup boiling water
- ⅓ cup vegetable shortening
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 ½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour, or more as needed
- 1 ¼ tsp. rapid-rise yeast
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 Tbs. unsalted butter, melted
