Smokehouse Crushed Almonds

Makes 1 cup

30 minutes or fewer

Try this crush as a crust for goat cheese; sprinkle it on salads, broccoli, or green beans; or dust over grilled fruit for a spicy-sweet treat. For smoky flavor with less kick, use ancho chile powder instead of chipotle powder.
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. sweet smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp. ground chipotle powder cup raw almonds

Preheat oven to 300°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine oil, brown sugar, paprika, and chipotle powder in medium bowl. Add almonds, and toss to coat with spice mixture. Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes, or until lightly toasted and fragrant. Season with salt, if desired. Cool. Pulse mixture in food processor several times, or until coarsely chopped.
