Queer Eye star and hair stylist Jonathan Van Ness has released JVN, a line of haircare essentials you’ll probably want to add to cart immediately. The products are all Leaping Bunny-certified as vegan and cruelty-free, and the brand is on a mission beyond just giving you shiny, manageable locks. JVN touts itself as a line inspired by inclusion, creating science-backed products that can work equally well for diverse hair needs.
“JVN allows everyone that uses it to find their best hair self, feel beautiful, and show the world that they can look better than ever, while being confident in their choice to bring clean beauty to their hair,” Van Ness notes in a statement on the brand’s website.
The hero ingredient of the JVN line is a breakthrough molecule known as hemisqualane. It’s a repairing ingredient that smooths and protects hair – and, don’t worry, it’s nothing like the shark-derived squalene you may have heard about some skincare brands using. Instead, hemisqualane is made from sustainably-grown sugar cane, which goes through through a special fermentation process.
Across the line’s formulations, the JVN team made a point to “specifically choose ingredients where the extraction or usage does not impact the environment, including the animals and vegetation, as well as taking into consideration the working environment for the employees involved,” according to a company statement.
And while what’s inside the bottle is sustainably-sourced, the bottle itself is planet-friendly, too. The products are packaged primarily in glass and aluminum – easy to recycle – and only use plastic for pumps and caps; even the plastic caps can be recycled at some facilities.
All that and great hair? Gorgeous, henny.
