We Tried It Out: Trail Truffles

Upgrade your trail chocolate from M&Ms to these decadent protein bites.

Vegetarian campers have a lot more options these days. You can cook your own or select from an ever-increasing range of veggie-friendly pre-packaged options.

We explored the world of vegetarian camping food at a recent Outdoor Retailer event, and we’re pretty excited about some of the tasty treats hitting the shelves. First treats up are Trail Truffles, which are plant-based complete protein chocolate energy bites that won’t melt!

These protein bites are made with a pea and brown rice protein blend and sweetened with dates and coconut nectar. You’ll avoid refined sugars, grains, dairy, soy, GMOs, and preservatives, but get in 6 grams of protein per serving.

Chocolate Hazelnut

Chocolate Hazelnut had a balanced and rich flavor. The texture is cocoa-ish with the first bite, and chewy through the rest of the bite.

Peanut Butter Cup

This flavor was the winner among our testers. The great balance of salty peanut butter and cocoa flavors made us forget that these protein bites also have a low GI.
