There’s nothing quite like snuggling around a popping, crackling bonfire on a chilly autumn night, roasting marshmallows and sipping on… s’mores Pepsi?!
Refusing to be left out of the fall season, PepsiCo just released The S’mores Collection, with three new soda flavors: toasty marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate. Available in 7.5 oz. mini cans, consumers are encouraged to mix the drinks to get the full s’more flavor.
“S’mores is one of the most unapologetically delicious treats that everyone likes to enjoy in a different way. So, on the last day of summer, we at Pepsi are thrilled to introduce an entirely new way to s’more with our Pepsi S’mores Collection,” Todd Kaplan, PepsiCo chief marketing officer, said in a news release. “This newest drop allows fans to construct their own s’mores to their liking – with the perfect amounts of graham, marshmallow, and chocolate – in a deliciously indulgent drink without any of the mess. We can’t wait for fans to try it.”
Real, non-soda marshmallows aren’t typically plant-based. We haven’t seen an ingredients list for S’Mores Pepsi yet, but based on statements released by Pepsi, it appears the ‘marshmallow’ here is a just a flavoring.
What Can You Expect?
Pepsi’s graham cracker flavor (we never thought we’d be saying that) is infused with notes of cinnamon and honey to mimic the cracker’s flavor. Toasty marshmallow has a strong marshmallow flavor said to contain toasted notes. And lastly, Pepsi’s chocolate flavor doesn’t disappoint with a dominating cocoa taste and a slight hint of vanilla.
Youtuber PapiEats recorded a taste-test reaction video on the flavors and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
“That’s really good. It works well – it’s Pepsi and it’s chocolatey,” he says about the chocolate flavor.
When sipping the graham cracker flavor, PapiEats describes a buttery taste.
“Yeah, imagine a buttery, almost syrupy graham cracker,” he says.“Very heavy on the flavor that comes with a typical graham cracker. It tastes very syrupy.”
PapiEats imagined that the marshmallow flavor would taste like a peep, but was wrong.
“It tastes like it’s been caramelized over a flame,” he says
Combining equal parts of each soda in one glass, PapiEats tried classic s’mores.
“It’s pretty good,” he says. “Tastes like you’re eating a s’more. That’s good. I approve of the classic.”
How to Get Your Hands on Pepsi S’mores
There’s a caveat. Pepsi is only offering these limited-edition flavors (for now, at least) to 2,000 people who follow them on Twitter or instagram and post a picture of how they ‘s’more’ with the hashtags #PepsiSmores and #Sweepstakes.
Love Unusual Soda Flavors? Try These, Too
Since Pepsi’s s’mores-inspired sodas are limited-edition and only available in small amounts, it may be hard to get your hands on a can. But if you want to spice things up and try another totally odd flavor combo, there are plenty to consider.
Pepsi Salty Watermelon
Only available for retail sale in Japan, but sold online everywhere, Pepsi Salty Watermelon is another flavor Pepsi stepped outside the box with. The salt is a little strong for some, but those who need an extra kick of sodium… Here you have it.
Lester’s Fixins Ranch Dressing
The Ranch-inspired bottle is reason enough to try this soda. While we can’t speak on the taste, it’s a creative spin on a beloved sauce.
Jones Thanksgiving Sodas
We love an artisan Jones soda as much as the next guy, but can’t say we’re gaga over the Thanksgiving flavors. In case you want to drink your holiday feast rather than eat it, the flavors include: gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and more.
Dr. Browns Cel-Ray
If you like celery juice but are missing that cold, carbonated taste, this is the soda for you. Described to have a ginger ale base with a bite, this soda has notes of bitter, peppery herbs.
