The weather gets warm, the days get long, and ovens and stoves lose their appeal. Instead, we’re looking for tossed-in-a-bowl pleasures – best eaten on a patio, if you ask me. Rachel Syme, an author and staff writer at The New Yorker, captured the mood in a tweet on Monday, declaring it Big Salad Season and calling for people to share their go-to salad combos.

-as much minced garlic as you like
-splash of red wine vin
-glug of olive oil

1 c tamari roasted almonds
¼ c sesame seeds
¾ c uncooked brown rice
½ c sliced red cabbage
1/2 c shredded carrots

Lemony Dijon Dressing
5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
½ cup lemon juice (4 lemons, usually)
1½ T dijon
3 T soy sauce
1 t. salt
