A new study finds eating raw garlic significantly lowers the risk of lung cancer, but how to stomach the pungent little cloves? One tip: mix it with a little fat (oil, mayo, avocado, etc.) to tame the sharp garlic flavor. Oh, and chewing on a sprig of mint or parsley helps keep your breath from scaring away your buddies. After recently banning sport hunting, Costa Rica plans to close its two public zoos and release many of the caged animals back into the wild. (The rest will be given to animal rescue groups.) The zoos will be turned into parks, where critters can visit if they choose. [NPR]
Looks like vegan backpacker Josh Garnett may have broken the record for shortest amount of time to complete the 2,655-mile Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. He’s averaged a cuh-razy 44 miles a day. [Seattle Times]
