With apple season in full swing, there are more reasons than ever to enjoy these vitamin-packed fall fruits. “If you’re tired of the same old Red or Golden Delicious, the growing number of varieties available means there’s an apple out there for everyone,” says Kim Galeaz, RD. Fill a cinnamon-laced strudel with spicy Winesaps or lighten up French toast with a Granny Smith apple topping instead of syrup. And when you garish acorn squash with a curried Gala apple compote, you’ll wish autumn’s abundance could last all year long.
Try these recipes:
- Cinnamon-Apple French Toast
- Acorn Squash with Curried Apple Compote
- Viennese Apple Strudel
- Apple-Walnut Salad with Maple Vinaigrette
Tip: To keep apples crisp and juicy, store them in the fridge, not on the counter. Cool temperatures prevent the sugars in the apple from turning to starch and keep the fruit from getting mealy.
